In 2015, we as Shalom Link Mission -SLM visited our first location: Dongo, Nigeria. In our effort to find out which communities we could impact and cause a great positive change, we discovered Dongo and discovered that the community was in need of a school and clinic. This was the birth of PROJECT DONGO.
Getting to Dongo was a mission on its own, a mission that involved canoeing through a small river, travelling through the only underdeveloped connection into Dongo after the river and a final trek before we arrived at our location.
Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed and invited with open arms into the community. But much to our dismay, the living conditions were far below the standards as is expected in a country like Nigeria. The whole environment looked so desolate and the people were living in abject poverty. The children were the most affected because there were no facilities to cater for their basic needs and the compilation of all these factors affected their developmental growth. For instance, due to their lack of schooling and education, many of the young girls end up and getting pregnant at very young ages.
Shalom Link Mission is dedicated to helping and supporting communities like Dongo that have been neglected by the government. But we need your kind heart and help. If you are also one that is moved to make a change and help those in need you can:
